Bomber Jackets and Familiar Faces → Day 1 at NYFW│AW17

The unusual and creative debuts during NYFW! A look into trends, collections, inspiration and style with Philip Ayler and the NYLON project.

At the Philip Ayler collection, in SoHo’s What Goes Around Comes Around boutique, surrounded by the classics like Chanel, Hermès, and more — I was exposed to Young’s collection featuring his-and-hers bomber.

…made from fabric that is more often associated with the coats walking down a Parisian runway than swathing an L.A. pop star. A former musician turned entrepreneur-slash-new designer, Young has quickly become an indie fashion star, with everyone from Gigi Hadid to Steven Tyler scooping up his bombers.

At the NYLON project — it was about giving “homelessness a face” with known entertainers and influencers walking the runway for a cause. Amongst them — it was awesome to see Christina Milian, Rain Dove, and JWoww.

What is the NYLON project?

In response to New York City’s surge in homelessness, Jordana Guimaraes has started The Nylon Project, a multitiered initiative that will include a New York Fashion Week show — all designed to help raise awareness about the problem.

Read more about it here on WWD

This initiative will be created via various steps which include a photo-shoot of 25 influencers/VIPs where they will hold up cardboard signs with “real” stories”, of those who wound up living on the streets in comparison to a time in their lives where with a bad decision they could’ve wound up in the same situation. The celebrities will wear clothes & accessories by sponsored brands. Booklets will be created with these photos & distributed to press worldwide to create awareness via a “It Can Be You” collaborative campaign.
