Hilton Hyde Park
by CC Mason
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hilton Hyde Park in London during London Fashion Week, and I can definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, recommend the stay.* Here are all of the things I loved about it.
Location:
Located just a crosswalk away from Hyde Park, on the edge of the ultra swanky Kensington, this hotel is near everything you could possibly want. From Hyde Park, you are in walking distance to all of the big attractions – Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall, Harrods, The Natural History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum just to name a few. If you’d like to go somewhere a little further away, fear not, as there are plenty of black cabs to take you anywhere you need to go, or if you prefer, you can use the London underground (aka the tube), which is located next door to the hotel. During London Fashion Week, it served as an excellent mid-point for all of my travels.
The Rooms:
Finding a room at any hotel in London that is large enough to wheel in your suitcases and walk around in can be a challenge. You’ll find that many of the hotel rooms in the city can feel very claustrophobic, but luckily the Hilton Hyde Park offers incredibly spacious rooms. I stayed in the King Deluxe Room with a view, which included a daily free breakfast and free wifi, and featured a beautiful view of Hyde Park. The rooms are equipped with all of the modern amenities you would hope for – USB chargers and wall sockets by the beds, spacious night stands, a mini fridge, a tray will full tea and coffee amenities, a large closet with a hair dryer and bath robes, and the historic windows, which give the building it’s characterful charm, are assisted by an additional set of interior modern windows to keep out all of the city sounds.
The bathrooms are also built to a fabulous specification, with backlit mirrors, detachable shower heads, and both the toilets and the showers offer eco settings to reduce water usage.
If you, like me, tend to have a lot of luggage when traveling, or have mobility issues getting up long flights of stairs, there are two separate elevators (aka lifts) to assist you.
AUBAINE Restaurant:
Aubaine is the beautiful modern French Café attached to the hotel, and it really is darling. Aubaine is responsible for the lush breakfast buffets every morning from 6:30am-10:30am, the bar and lounge downstairs, and the room service, along with it’s own dinning.
Though I’m not an early riser, my mom, who came with me to London Fashion Week, is, and she loved the vast spread of breakfast. Her favorite part was, of course, the cappuccino machine, which made a perfect cup every time.
I was treated to brunch before attending some fashion week catwalks and the quality of the food was superb. Whenever I try a new brunch spot, I order their eggs benedict, because I feel like it really tests the quality of the kitchen. Are the eggs perfectly poached? Is the hollandaise perfectly seasoned, or has it split? What is the quality of the ham, or in this case, Hand sliced jamon de Bayonne, fabulous, or have they used cuts from last night’s roast dinner? In all cases, it was phenomenal. Mom was in more of a lunch mood, so she had the chicken supreme – tender, juicy chicken on a bed of tender stem broccoli and butternut squash puree, topped with crispy bacon. It’s safe to say we were both members of the clean plate club!
Aubaine is also a great place to go if you want an aesthetic cup of coffee, cocktail, or dessert with friends. The pink walls, French décor, and florals all lend themselves to being perfectly instagramable!
If you’re looking to stay in London and want to be close to all of the action and attractions, I would definitely recommend the Hilton Hyde Park!
