Tara Howard is a photographer based in Palm Springs, CA specializing in desert travel and lifestyle. A former New Yorker of 11 years, Tara was previously the Arts + Entertainment photo editor at The Wall Street Journal before relocating to the desert. While at WSJ, she oversaw countless photo shoots and is grateful to have worked with some of the most talented photographers in the business.

With an editor’s background, Tara shoots with an editing eye and is is passionate about collaborating and creating compelling images that tell a story. Working with talent to capture THAT moment is one of her special skills.

Here in Palm Springs you can find her work promoting various entities of the desert including Visit Palm Springs, Visit Greater Palm Springs, The Gardens on El Paseo and The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. She enjoys capturing talent on the McCallum stage and other local theaters well as concerts and house photography for Acrisure Arena. She also stays busy with commercial and branding photography for her favorite local businesses.

In her work, she is consistently tasked with creating images that tell the story of why Palm Springs is such a special place to visit and live. She is grateful to get to look at the desert through that lens as it allows for daily gratitude and appreciation for all that it has to offer.

In addition to photography, Tara has a background in musical theatre and recently performed the role of Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical here in Indio, CA. When not working or performing, you will likely find her training for a high intensity fitness race, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with her family. Being a mom to her two girls is the greatest role she’s ever been able to play.
