Yesiney Burgess
My name is Yesiney Burgess. I was born and raised in Habana. Cuba. Despite the almost total absent of material things, I have beautiful memories of my early years growing up in my barrio called “El Cerro” surrounded by a big family, playing and dancing in the streets. It was a very carefree/instinct driving life. As I grew older, I started to notice all the injustice, fears and desperation that we were living under and a lot of things started to bother me then, but I still had my family and my career that has always been my backbone.
At the age of 4 I started in synchronized swimming and from then on, I went to art schools until I graduated and began working for the Ballet of the Television in Havana, I dance in multiple television shows as well as award and government ceremonies. I thank my mom and stepdad for all the sacrifices they made to make it all possible, one example is for 3 years either one of them would walk me miles to the bus station at 5am to catch the only buss that would take me to my school, and I would hitch hike my way back home with my friends.
Fast forward to Aruba (my first time out of Cuba with a cast of 24 dancers) there the stars aligned to meet the love of my life, an American boy, my gringo name Troy. He is the reason I’m here today 14 years later with two beautiful babies and an incredible life. We went through an extensive immigration process while I was still traveling for work. He visited me in Aruba, Cuba and Mexico until I was approved to meet him in LA, Oct 18th, 2008 exactly 2 years to the date we meet.
While living in LA the stars aligned once again, and I met a producer name Anita Mann and ended up auditioning for her show Fantasy and moving to LV to perform in it. That life event allowed me to start the immigration process to bring my Mom, stepdad and sister over and buy a beautiful home here in LV. I also had mi Abuelita visit me here several times which really filled my heart with joy. I’m currently the Dance captain and resident choreographer for Fantasy and looking forward to returning to our live performances. I believe my story was written before I arrived in this life.
What absolutely excites you right now?
. We are in a season of mandatory change; life is forcing us to get out of our comfort zone and think in different ways and that is a bit scary but also exciting. I’ts interesting because life has always showed me the way and I never hesitated to follow. I don’t have a clear path right now, but I feel inspired, motivated and hopeful for the future.
If you could do anything you wanted tonight (anywhere, for any amount of money), what would you do and why?
. I would get in a private plane and fly to a Covid free island with all my loved ones.
What’s the most important thing I should know about you?
. I’m a keeper, I’m loyal to those who have showed me love and care.
What do you value more, intelligence or common sense?
. Common sense. Anybody can improve their intellect, but common sense involves judgement of the different scenarios you find yourself in. I personally struggle with this sometimes.
What movie is your favorite guilty pleasure, and why?
. Moulin Rouge. I’m guilty of acting the scenes more than actually watching it. Lol
You are stuck on a deserted island, and you can only take three things.
What would they be?
. A fully loaded 40 ft Yacht, My personal hotspot and a bottle of Havana Club rum. __
When and where were you happiest in your life?
. I’ve been blessed with many happy times. I would say in Aruba when I met my love was a pretty magical time.
What project are you working on that you are most excited about?
. I’m working on a fitness project and raising my kids is the most exciting project of all.
